How do you connect Claude to Revit 2019? I asked myself that question yesterday, and today I decided to write this guide, because every ready-made solution starts at Revit 2020. Of all the ways to hook an AI up to Revit, I chose pyRevit: I use it myself, and it is a very popular, free plugin for Revit.

This guide is only for you if you work in Revit 2019. You do not need to know Python programming to follow it. If some of the terms are unfamiliar, do not worry, just repeat the steps one by one and enjoy the result.

The family is placed in Revit and looks good in 3D, but in plan view you see extra lines, cannot adjust the material, can see the floor finish beneath the family, or get a solid white fill that you cannot change. To save time on Revit interior projects, prepare the parts your practice uses repeatedly. A family library provides adjustable objects, a reference project shows how to document them, and a project template supplies the view and schedule settings. Together, they reduce the setup work needed for each new project.

Start with the task that repeats before every issue. If a kitchen revision requires editing geometry inside several families, start with modules whose dimensions and configuration you can change through parameters. If several people produce different graphics for the same kind of plan, start with view templates.

For layout options and presentation images, SketchUp can be a practical choice, especially if your team already works in it. For recurring interior projects with plans, elevations, tags and schedules, Revit lets you organise those deliverables around one model. The choice depends on the complete drawing package and how you handle revisions.

To speed up Revit: insert DWG files as links instead of imports, close inactive views, keep plans at Coarse detail with shadows off, avoid families over 2 MB, and unload the links you are not using. A slow file almost always comes from a combination of causes rather than one. Here are eight fixes, starting with the ones that work best.
